Dianne Stewart is the founder and sole director of It’s a People Business (IAPB), an experienced HR Professional and Chartered member of the CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development) with a career spanning Start ups, SMEs and Fortune 500 companies.
Prior to moving into HR, Dianne served as a police officer in the city of Glasgow, and regularly dealt with challenging situations and behaviours. Many of the skills she developed during this period – communication, negotiation, leadership and people management – have been key to her success to date.
Passionate about good people practice that adds value to business including authentic leadership, effective recruitment, resourcing, retention, people engagement, management and development, Dianne’s experience is vast and varied having worked with small ‘start-ups’ through to listed multinationals in the energy, technology and professional services sectors.
A genuine ‘people person’ who enjoys leading, managing, mentoring and coaching individuals and teams, Dianne also has good business and commercial acumen, a rare combination but an essential HR skill, particularly in today’s challenging business environment.
Her decision to leave the corporate world and set up her own consultancy was driven by the desire to help others develop, expand and get the most out of their people.
“While the term Human Resources or HR is universally used and understood, it doesn’t accurately reflect our approach. It’s too clinical and cold – to us people aren’t a commodity; they are individuals, who have needs and aspirations, and can throw up challenges when you least expect it!
In business, change is inevitable, so the ability to think on your feet and adapt accordingly to the environment around you is important, but equally important is how that change is managed. In our opinion, change needs to be managed effectively with respect and humanity.
That’s the ethos of our business, and why we chose the name It’s a People Business. It reflects our personalities, values, approach to business and where our expertise lies: in people.”
